Object Pronouns

Persoonlijk voornaamwoord (object)

Dutch personal pronouns have different forms depending on whether they are the subject or the object of a sentence. Object pronouns are used after verbs and after prepositions.

je — Unstressed "you" (object) is je: Ik ken je niet.

me vs mij — stressed vs unstressed

Both <strong>me</strong> and <strong>mij</strong> mean "me". Use <em>mij</em> when emphasising yourself or in contrast. Use <em>me</em> in normal, unstressed speech.

Object pronouns after prepositions

After prepositions such as <em>op, voor, met, aan, naar, bij, over</em>, always use the object form of the pronoun.
